A 29-year-old man who tagged walls and cars at a northwest Calgary LRT station with hateful messages in 2015 apologized in court on Wednesday.

Kyle MacKenzie pleaded guilty to mischief and inciting hate after he and another man spray-painted hateful anti-Muslim and anti-Syrian messages all over Tuscany LRT Station last December.

On Wednesday, MacKenzie read a letter during his sentencing hearing, apologizing to those he offended.

MacKenzie's lawyers are arguing that the six and a half months their client has served is sufficient punishment while the Crown has requested an 18 month sentence with credit for time served.

Judge Fradsham is expected to make a decision on July 15.

Miguel Lavergne also faces charges in connection with the December vandalism.
