A Calgary woman accused of killing two of her newborn babies has been released on an unusual bail condition.
Meredith Borowiec was released on Thursday on the condition that she stays on birth control.
Borowiec is charged with the second-degree murder of two newborns and with trying to kill another baby boy that was born in 2010.
She is accused of throwing all three babies in a garbage dumpster.
A judge decided Borowiec could go free until her trial resumes as long as she continues to use an IUD for birth control.
Criminal Lawyer, Balfour Der says judges have the right to impose any conditions they want as long as they are reasonable given the circumstance.
"In a case like this one the offence really relates to the woman having babies so it's probably not an unreasonable condition for a judge to require that person to take birth control pills so that she doesn't get pregnant,” said Der.
Borowiec’s second-degree murder trial will continue this fall and she will be tried separately for the attempted murder of a newborn boy, rescued from that dumpster in 2010.
