Calgary’s popular weekend gathering of art, craft, fashion and music, has found a historic summer residence.

Market Collective, a monthly community event promoting local art and culture, will move into the Mewata Armoury for three days in July.

“The Mewata Armoury is a beautiful and historic venue, and we are excited to share with Calgary what the creative class can accomplish in our city,” says Angela Dione, co-founder of Market Collective.

Market Collective has brought together members of Calgary’s art community since June 2008.  The event was originally located in the Anthill Building on 10 St. N.W. in Kensington, but a decision by the Kensington BRZ in the fall of 2012 restricting the number of December sales the collective could hold sent organizers scrambling for a new home.

In December 2012, the event, which donates to the Calgary Food Bank and supports many non-profit organizations, moved into a former southeast car dealership along International Avenue for the three weekends leading up to Christmas.

The Mewata Armoury is located at 801 11 St. S.W. and is a short distance from an LRT station.  The building was constructed between 1915 and 1918 and has been used by Canada’s military for training, parades, and other events.

The Mewata Armoury Market Collective is slated for July 19 – 21, 2013.
