The brother of a Calgary businessman who was killed in a skiing accident this past weekend say he was adventurous and devoted to his family.

Tom Podivinsky, 48, died following a skiing accident in Montana at the Whitefish Mountain Resort on Sunday afternoon.

He separated from the group he was with and didn’t show up at the bottom of the run.

His companions called the ski patrol and he was found unconscious underneath a tree.

Tom could not be revived and he was later declared dead.

Olympic medalist Edi Podivinsky says his brother will be dearly missed.

He says Tom had a passion for the hills and his family.

"I think of the parents and what they've gone through and his wife Mary Beth. What makes me the saddest is the kids. We've got to do what we can and I'll try to raise them as normally as possible. Mary Beth will as well. We'll do whatever we can for these kids," Edi said on Wednesday.

Podivinsky was a chief geophysicist at Athabasca Oil and in his spare time, he helped in the development of young skiers.

The family is hoping to set up a trust fund for Podivinsky’s children.

A private ceremony is scheduled for Monday.
